Thanks to the generous support of ACM SIGAI and US NSF, we can provide student
grants for participants at IUI 2025. Please refer to the following categories to learn the
eligibility and application process. Note: A student can only get one award from the
following categories. We suggest you apply the GMTA, whether you are student authors
or not.
Category 1: Gary Marsden Travel Awards (GMTA)

Eligibility criteria:
- You must be a SIGCHI member at the time of application to be eligible. Read about membership and how
to sign up on the SIGCHI website. Please note, ACM membership and SIGCHI membership are not the
same. You can check which one you have via MyACM.
- SIGCHI will consider no more than one presenter per submission. Also, SIGCHI will consider no more
than one student per advisor, per submission cycle.
- If SIGCHI has a large number of applicants, they will prioritize first-time attendees and
presenters. Acceptances can include papers, posters/extended abstracts, works in progress, demos,
case studies, etc., though SIGCHI may consider type of submission if we have many applicants. If you
do not have a submission or it has not been accepted yet, however, you can still apply.
- Overall, SIGCHI will prioritize applications that demonstrate financial need and compelling benefit
to the applicant in attending the conference.

Deadlines are on the 9th of January, February, March, May, July, September, and November at 11:59 PM AoE.
Category 2: ACM IUI Student Grants
These funds came from ACM SIGAI, and US NSF. The eligibility and
special rules can
be found as follows. We may only waive registration costs for students studying in other
countries rather than USA. For students studying in US Universities, we may be able to
cover your registration and partial travel expenses. To get these funds, you must fill out
the application form below. Note: All student awardees should agree to work as student
volunteers at the ACM IUI conference.
ACM SIGAI Student Travel Fund
Eligibility: Student Authors
Notes: Awardees must purchase ACM SIGAI membership on their own.
US NSF Grant
Eligibility: Student Authors who are studying in a university or college in the USA
Special Notes:
- Awardees must purchase ACM membership on their own.
- To get reimbursement of the airfare by using US NSF, you must book flights with
US-flagged carriers (a carrier operating under a code share agreement with a US
carrier is considered a US flag carrier, as long as the ticket is issued using the US
flag carrier’s airline designator and flight number). Your airline ticket purchases
comply with the Fly America Act (U.S. carrier or code-shared flights are used).

- For eligible flights with US-flagged carriers, we suggest you book flights directly
from USA airlines, e.g., United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Airlines,
Hawaii Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, etc. Even if the flights are
operated by a foreign airline (e.g., Air Canada), it is still eligible as long as you
book the flights from US-based airlines. However, if the flight is secured via a
travel agency (e.g., Priceline), it may not be eligible for reimbursement.
- The best way to book qualified flights is booking a US-flagged flight from US to Rome or Milan,
plus a non-US flight to Caligari
