Visa Requirements

Reminder: You should apply for a visa in good time, in case of any delays during processing. Schengen visa processing normally takes at least 15 days, and it can take considerably longer during busy periods.

Finland is part of the Schengen area. Citizens of EU/EEA and Schengen member states do not need a visa to visit Finland (a valid passport or national identity card is sufficient). Citizens of other countries may also enter without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The Schengen Area

If your main country of destination is Finland, you must apply for a visa at the Visa Application Centre indicated by a Finnish mission, at a Finnish mission or at a Schengen country mission representing Finland. 

Your main destination is the country where your stay is the longest; if your stays are of equal length, you should apply through the country that is your first point of entry into the Schengen area. This is worth keeping in mind if you plan to travel elsewhere in Europe before the conference, as Finland may not be your main destination.

ETIAS travel authorization

If you are travelling from a visa-exempt country (for example, the US, UK, Canada, Australia, or Japan), you may need an ETIAS travel authorization to enter Finland. 

ETIAS is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026. A transitional period of around six months is expected to follow, during which it may not yet be strictly enforced at the border. However, some airlines may ask for it from the start, so we recommend applying in advance to be on the safe side. As timelines may still change, please check the official EU page for the latest information: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/en/etias

Please also make sure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your intended date of departure from the Schengen area.

Visa support letters

ACM is able to provide visa support letters to attendees as well as authors with accepted papers, posters, or members of the conference committee.

Please allow up to 10 business days to receive a letter. All requests are handled in the order they are received.

The information below should be included with the request:

  • Your name as it appears on your passport
  • Your current postal mailing address
  • The name of the conference you are registering for
  • Your registration confirmation number
  • If you have any papers accepted for the conference, please provide the title and indicate whether you are the “sole author” or a “co-author”; if you do not have a paper, speakers can provide the title of their presentation
